Is it worth visiting during the winter season?

Our play zone is an ideal day out during winter months. Children can play and run around to their heart’s content while adults can relax with a warm drink, snack or cake.

The zoo is of course subject to weather, however a winter stroll is just as enjoyable as in summer.

Almost all exotic animals quickly adapt to the climate they live in. Therefore, most of our fosterlings usually venture out to their outside enclosures every day. This is not just for exercise purposes but is also very important for behavioural and hygiene reasons. We are restricted only by cold, damp weather.

In contrast to the majority of other small zoos, we have 5 accessible tropical (heated) exhibits:

  • A tropical house for hippopotami, crocodiles and exotic birds
  • South America house for coatis, turtles and insects
  • Giraffe house
  • Tapir house with resident capybaras and
  • Exotarium for reptiles.

The lion house features large windows and a panel is all that separates visitors from these impressive large cats. Apes and cheetahs can also be seen parading around in their inner quarters through our windows.

Over the last few years, all of the paths throughout the zoo have been paved, making walking around very easy.
