Our zoo

The zoo was established in 1950 as a classic zoo. Since then, all enclosures have been adapted and renovated to meet modern animal maintenance requirements. A few new buildings were built, such as the giraffe house and a complete renovation of the lion enclosure was carried out.
Large 12-hectare extension grounds were designed with a 4-hectare centrally located large Africa site for various plains animals, such as giraffes, antelopes, zebras and ostriches.
A good 600 animals are currently residents at our zoo.

Mammals

35 different types of mammals live in the zoo, from giraffes to the world’s smallest monkey – the pygmy marmoset. This of course also includes petting enclosures, allowing direct contact with the animals. Feed the goats, sheep and alpacas with special homemade feed.

Birds

We have the largest variety of bird species. Our residents currently include 70 different types of species. These include feathered friends who love more tropical climates, who you will find freely flying around the tropical house, to cold-climate penguins.

Reptiles

We have a separate house for our snakes and lizards, which goes by the name ‘Exotarium’. Since these animals require a particularly warm environment, they are separated from visitors by a glass wall. This keeps energy costs under control.

Creepy-crawlies

Some of our inhabitants even include insects and spiders. Since they are not related to one another, we have decided to use the collective term “creepy-crawlies”. Out in nature, most people don’t like to get too close to “creepy-crawlies”. In the zoo, where they are safely separated by a panel, we can enjoy observing the praying mantis, scorpion and tarantula.

Warm houses

All year round, but particularly in winter, a visit to our various warm houses is a real delight. The tropical house with its pygmy hippopotami, free-roaming birds and newly introduced caimans is well worth a visit. The giraffes can only be observed through a panel in their enclosure. The South America house with its Insectarium, Tapir House and Exotarium with various reptiles rounds off the various opportunities.

Winter quarter

Not all animals like to stay indoors in winter. On the other hand, not all animals are able to roam outside in all weather conditions. Large windows help us guarantee that you see the animals. The best example of this is the lion house, however you can also see the monkeys throughout the year.
